Our journey
West Island Guitars was founded by Domenic Marrone, a lifelong musician, builder, and gear enthusiast with decades of hands-on experience. For Domenic, music isn’t just a passion—it’s a way of life. After years of dealing with long wait times, overpriced setups, and impersonal service, he saw the need for a local shop where players could get honest, fast, and affordable care for their instruments.
Even though drums have always been Domenic’s main instrument, his love for guitars runs deep. The feel, the versatility, and the infinite combinations of sounds have fascinated him since childhood. He was always tinkering—painting, modifying, and building guitars from spare parts his dad would pick up at flea markets and garage sales.
During the pandemic, that passion kicked into high gear. Domenic began buying used guitars, refurbishing them, and selling them as beginner-friendly kits—each one backed by a personal warranty. At one point, he was selling over 20 kits a week and could barely keep up with demand. With his extensive background in global trade and the import business, he realized he could streamline the process by sourcing new quality parts from Asia, assembling everything locally, and offering players a well-built, professionally set-up guitar at a fraction of the cost of big-name brands.
That vision led to the creation of his own personal line of guitars—designed to deliver quality, playability, and value. If you’re looking for a great instrument without breaking the bank, we hope you’ll pick one up and get rocking!
Whether you're a weekend strummer, a gigging pro, or just starting out, we believe your gear should play right—without the hassle of a two-hour drive or a $100 bill for a basic setup. While some well-known luthiers have wait times of 5–6 weeks, we typically turn around basic setups in under a week—with express 24-hour service available for those who need it fast.
We’ve seen it all: beginners giving up too soon because of poorly adjusted guitars, old strings, or faulty electronics. And seasoned players dealing with the wear and tear of gigs, travel, and the wild swings of Canadian weather. Whatever the issue, we can help get your instrument back in shape—restored to the feel and sound it had the day it left the factory.
Reach out today to book your setup or ask a question about our full line of Guitar and Amplifiers. Your instrument deserves to play its best—and so do you!
